I've been a bit nostalgic this weekend for Columbia...ok, forget it...down right homesick. But it's for the strangest things.
I miss flat branch. Pretzels with chokes n' cheese, oh lord. I miss the Ragtag...even though I only had one beer there (which I didn't buy myself because I may or may not have been "unable" to at the time...) and never saw a movie there. I miss gameday. Even if I wasn't in the stands the whole dimension of the city just buzzed with excitement and you could hear the cheers for miles.
I miss that fall smell...the one only found in Missouri, and the smell of an early, dewy morning walking over the steam tunnels on campus on the way to the best breakfast in the city at Rollins dining hall.
If I was lucky/stupid enough to spend my day either drowning or frying at Faurot Field I miss the photo-ops with friends. Some of my favorite pictures were taken at football games.
I miss yelling at the asians who crossed the street in front of my car...they made life interesting and unpredictable.
I didn't care for it much when I lived there...but now I miss Shakespeare's. It wasn't the best pizza in the world but it had a flavor that was uniquely columbia and has somehow managed to sneak into the corners of my mind.
I miss walking by FAB slab and seeing people sunbathing and hearing (sometimes awful) music coming through the music school windows. I miss the vagrants yelling ADD SHEET!!! GET'CHER ADD SHEET!!! And the feeling of guilt afterwards when I didn't take one, and the disgust when I did, haha.
I miss spending the chilly evenings chowing down on hamburgers from the grill, pasta salad, and cucumbers on the Penberthy's back deck. (For the record, you're not allowed to have a grill at my apartment complex...and my mother is apparently holding my Foreman grill ransom...so for now I have to settle for pan fried beef...ugh)
I could sit here all night and name things. Montgomery is definitely growing on me. But it's not home yet.
And I want a decent hamburger...and maybe a hot dog too.
